Challenge to End Hunger: Mission Helpers of the Sacred Heart
The Mission Helpers of the Sacred Heart, as members of The Catholic Sisters of Leadership of Conference of Women Religous, Region 4 invite you to join us during Catholic Sisters Week for a collaborative effort to serve persons in need and bring much needed awareness to: the current increase in food insecurity and its underlying causes: the COVID-19 pandemic; poverty; unemployment/under-employment; inconsistent access to healthy food. Our neighbors are hurting! Let’s step up to help meet their need!
- The overall estimated cost to meet the food needs of all food-insecure Marylanders was nearly $353 million, at an estimated cost of $3.10 per meal in 2018.
- Food insecurity exists in every congressional district in the United States, including Maryland.
Based in Baltimore, Maryland, the Mission Helpers help support the efforts of the Assistance Center of Towson Churches (ACTC) by collecting non-perishable food, spreading word of their mission and supporting their efforts. We need your help to increase donations of non-perishable food and monetary donations. This will allow us to increase our efforts to support the ACTC as they focus during the COVID-19 pandemic on preparing prepacked grocery bags every two weeks for anyone in need; providing daily lunches for those experiencing homelessness; and providing limited financial assistance for those facing eviction or gas/electric cut-off. Your support will also assist our sisters who are serving in areas where food insecurity exists as a result of poverty, domestic violence, unemployment due to COVID-19 as well as under-employment.
