Preparing “BAGS OF LOVE” for Human Trafficking Survivors
The Anti-Trafficking Coalition of the Boston Unit of LCWR includes five congregations who have a presence in the greater Boston area: The Holy Union Sisters, The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, The Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston, Medical Missionaries of Mary and the Franciscan Sisters of Philadelphia.
For several years this coalition has been preparing and providing emergency bags, Bags of Love, for women/girls who have been rescued from Human Trafficking. Through the generosity of a small group of adults from a local parish Bags of Love have been given to members of the FBI who are responsible for helping these women/girls transition from victim to survivor almost monthly for the last few years.
The need has increased in recent months therefore, during Catholic Sisters Week, this coalition is making a special effort to encourage local groups of sisters and their partners in mission to help with preparing these bags. Since this is an ongoing concern and bags are always needed, this outreach will continue beyond Catholic Sisters Week.
