Obedience challenges us to look beyond independent decision-making and invites us to consult with others to gain a broader view and deeper perspective. It is discernment, both personal and communal, about how to respond to the needs of the world. Obedience is a deep listening to our own lives, to those of others and to the life of the world as a way of hearing the Holy Spirit. It involves mutual cooperation, shared responsibility and commitment to empowerment. Obedience is hearing God’s call in prayer, ourselves, our leaders, nature, and the needs of the world.
