S. Sandy’s ministry is one of accompaniment, advocacy, and unwavering dedication. As the coordinator of the Newcomers Transitions Program, she walks alongside refugee families and asylum seekers, helping them navigate the complexities of adjusting to life in the United States. From securing medical care and legal assistance to addressing social, spiritual, and basic needs, her work ensures that those seeking a new beginning find the support they need to thrive.

While S. Sandy’s work is deeply rewarding, it is not without challenges. Delays in paperwork, language barriers, and the slow-moving nature of bureaucratic processes require patience and perseverance. Yet, she finds joy in this ministry, recognizing the profound impact of her efforts in helping families find stability and hope.

Her commitment extends beyond direct service. As chair of the board for Price Hill Will and a board member of Santa Maria Community Services, S. Sandy continues the long-standing legacy of the Sisters of Charity in serving those in need on Cincinnati’s West Side. Santa Maria, founded by Sisters Blandina and Justina Segale in 1897, remains a beacon of support for immigrant communities.

Additionally, as co-chair of the Justice Circle on Immigration and Ending Human Trafficking, S. Sandy works alongside Sisters and Associates to advocate for systemic change and provide essential services to immigrants. Through her tireless efforts, she upholds the Gospel call to justice, ensuring that those who have faced oppression can rise above it and build a future filled with dignity and opportunity.
